About us
Gunvor Backman and her husband, Torsten, opened their first café on Korkeavuorenkatu in Helsinki in 1957. Café Succés continues to operate in the same location and remains owned by the same family.
Café Esplanad was established in 1994, when a space became available in the heart of Helsinki that was seen as an ideal location for a café. The time and location called for a slightly more ambitious concept than the one on Korkeavuorenkatu, so serving alcohol was considered a natural part of the concept. We brought a fresh new spirit to Helsinki, which was struggling through a recession — a small golden moment in everyday life.
For us, customer service, freshness, and above all, quality are principles we uphold every day when serving our customers.
